H GWA Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

H GWA - Research Paper Example It is important to understand the relationship that these two countries have in an effort to figure out the consequent impact that it has on any other relations that the United States has. The public policy to uphold through the paper is the labor and employment policy as the linking relationship between the two countries. History and Background The major types of relationships that these two countries share are political, monetary and social. It is also imperative to grasp an understanding of the history between the relationships between the United States and China that ages back to the year 1844 when there was the signing of the Treaty of Wanghia. The treaty introduced several rules to regulate their association and gave the United States ability to carry out extended trade relations with China just like other foreign powers1. The relations have existed since then and have brought both positive and negative effects on many countries around the world either directly or indirectly. E conomic Relationship In 1972, the United States received the leeway to invest in mainland China after being banned earlier citing the dangers of the soviet armies. The prolific relations have been the case ever since with the United States getting to an extent of even outsourcing its companies’ requirements from the country. This has particularly brought up a large drift between the two countries from the fact that the United States claims that China makes use of that opportunity to create counterfeit items and consequently portraying the United States wrongly. These allegations have existed over the last five years where China takes some of the raw materials that it does not have in its country from the products made in the United States and rather than completing the manufacture of the products, the workers under the labor union seek to use the materials. This has led to both countries imposing strict trade tariffs on various investment sectors. The workers in China engage in the creation of replica products with the same name as the legitimate products and sell them both locally and internationally. Research has shown that the greatest export recipient of the Peoples’ Republic of China is the European Union. This union is composed of 27 member states with the most influence coming from France. France has been on the receiving end on this issue of counterfeit products manufactured by China2. Given its power, France has great relations with both the United States and China and this issue places it at a poor position in its associations with the United States. French people buy the commodities from China given that the country provides them at a much cheaper rate and the low transport costs provided the proximity to each other. This has affected France’s economic terms with the United States especially on the case of clothing products and tires that it acquires from China. The United States has many times advised France from the purchase o f these counterfeit items from the fact that their usage discriminates the legitimate items provided by the United States and affects the economy negatively. France thus often gets into a cold relationship with the United States concerning this and with a continuation of the negligence, it is common

The Ottoman Empire Paper Essay Example for Free

The Ottoman Empire Paper Essay The Ottoman Empire was one of the ancient yet one of the most powerful and influential world empires.   The history of this empire begins sometimes during the 13th century.   In their bid to enlarge their territory they took no consideration to any limits or boundaries be it religious, tribal or otherwise.   This empire is also viewed as one of the civilized empires of the modern times. The empire was more of a military administration than a state.   The empire is considered to have lasted a considerably longer time than any other empire.    The rulers of this empire were known as Sultans or Hunkar or Emperors and were all Islam.   Suleyman the Great was the Sultan who ruled the longest while Amurath ruled for only three months making him the shortest ruling sultan.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The sultans always emerged from the Ottoman family who were strict followers of the Quran.   Honesty, hard work and charity were principles that led the Ottoman Empire.   Sermons were always read in the name of the reigning Sultan at that time.   Any property belonging to the Sultan was known as Royal or imperial.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Having discussed that much on the establishment and general history of the Ottoman of the empire, it is of utmost importance to now look at the empire more critically and find out impacts of the Ottoman Empire especially on the Umma Muslims.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Though the Ottoman Empire was one of the most powerful and civilized ancient empires of the world, it also had its weak points during its reign.   This paper specifically focuses on some of those weak points and particularly the mismanagement that was witnessed when the empire was in power leading to division among the Umma Muslims.   A critical analysis of the Ottoman Empire reveals various setbacks that the dynasty experienced and this affected directly or indirectly the unity of the Ottoman Muslims. According to the traditions of the Ottoman Empire, when a Sultan died one of his sons would become the next Sultan.   However there were no proper strategies as to who would become the next Sultan. There was therefore no clear criterion of selecting a Sultan. This led to bloodshed as the one who eventually emerged victorious had to eliminate his rivals for order and calmness to prevail.   This obviously went against the teachings of the Muslim religion.   Some Muslims supported the method while others were totally opposed to it as it contravened the teachings of the Holy Quran.   This led to division among the Muslims.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Another issue that led to the division of the Umma Muslims was the level of respect accorded to the sultans.   The Sultans were almost equated to Allah the God of the Muslims.   For instance during prayers sermons were read in the name of the current Sultan.   Some Muslims however felt that this was blasphemous because ordinarily sermons were supposed to be read in the name of Allah the Mighty one.   This therefore led to division among Muslims thereby breaking the unity between them.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As discussed earlier Sultan Suleyman served for 40 years and therefore goes down the history of books as the longest serving Sultan.  Ã‚   The major role of the Sultan was to ensure that justice and fairness was exercised.   Cases of injustice were rare as the Sultan made sure that the laws were followed to the letter.   Any injustice and unfairness called for the direct intervention of the Sultan. Scholars and theologians believe that one of the reasons why the Ottoman dynasty declined and eventually collapsed was because the Sultans who succeeded Sultan Suleyman were not keen on protecting the interests of the citizens in terms of justice.   The neglect by their leaders led to Umma Muslims to lack loyalty for their leaders and thereby there was disunity among them.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   When Sultan died his son Selim II took over the leadership of the dynasty. His behavior was absolutely intolerable and contributed a great deal in causing disunity among the Muslims.   He was an addict of alcohol and would spend most of his days drinking therefore forgetting his administrative role.   He was also a lover of women and a sex addict vices that are heavily condemned in the Holy Quran.   Due to his negligent nature, he completely disengaged himself from making decisions that affected the common people directly or indirectly.   This made the Muslims to be disloyal to the Sultan and thereby led to a lot of division. As a consequence the Ottoman dynasty came tumbling down marking the end of the great dynasty. (Paul, 1971)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   At the end of the sixteen century Ottoman was still a very strong dynasty and influential too.   However the Sultan style of leadership was slowly becoming unpopular thus losing ground.   In its place was the bureaucratic power method of ruling.   However this method of power was actually the pathway to the decline and collapse of the world’s most influential empire.  Ã‚   This was so because bureaucracy led to corruption neglecting the needs and interests of the people.   As a result, there was a lot of unpopularity of the government among the common people.   This led to division among the Muslims and eventually the dynasty collapsed. (Leslie, 2003)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Historians also believe that another major contribution to disunity among the Ottoman Muslims was inequality by successors of Sultan Suleiyman.   As discussed earlier during the reign of Sultan Suleiyman the Central government was accessible so that any person who had grievances would present them before the leaders.   However with the change of leaders, the new leaders ranked themselves so highly that they were not accessible.   The Muslims lost faith in their leaders; consequently there was disunity and eventual collapse of the dynasty. The leaders promoted people to power without using the right criteria.   There was gross unfairness and this brought about strife among the common people.   This in turn led to divisions among the Muslims as some felt that they were discriminated against in their own country.   At some point the leaders exuded high level of negligence as far as matters pertaining people were concerned.   The common people revolted and as a result there was disunity.   This led to internal attacks.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Another major issue that brought about division due to poor management of power by the leaders was the issue of succession upon the death of a Sultan.   As already discussed if the deceased Sultan was without an heir or that he had several sons there was stiff contest that always led to bloodshed.   Scholars strongly believe that this may have played a major role in division of the Umma and the eventual collapse of the kingdom.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   A notable distinction between the Ottoman Empire and other empires was that they were during the Ottoman Empire there was freedom especially for the non-Muslims to practice their own religion.   This brought division among the Muslims as some felt that other religions were equated to their religion and this they found to be very offensive.   As a result there were massacres and discrimination.  Ã‚   This led to a great division among the Muslims most of whom felt that though no religion should be equated with the Muslim religion Massacre was a sin as it contravened the Holy Quran.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There was also an element of divide and rule that leaders in power used in attempt to gain popularity.   The leaders would therefore incite the people against their own.   The people fought each other over small disputes but this was the plan of the leaders in order to rule them more easily.   This was a great power mismanagement that saw the Muslims divide into big factions depending on whose side they actually belonged. (Shaw, 1977)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There was great self-centeredness and selfishness among the leaders which again brought division.   This was especially so when it came to sharing of resources.   There was unfair sharing and distribution of resources that brought hatred and thus division among the Muslims.   The leaders only considered themselves and their families forgetting the rest of the people.   Some people felt sidelined and as a result there were factions and consequently these groupings led to division among the Umma Muslims.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Another challenge that the Ottoman Empire faced was classification of Muslims.   The Shia Muslims, the Umma and other classifications.   Every class felt that they dominated the rest.   This again brought about division because all classes of Muslims felt that they would want to be considered superior to the rest.   This eventually brought about division among the Muslims as no group agreed to be treated as lesser of the other.   The major division came about when some groups demanded that the rest of the groups must convert and become one of their own.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Division also arose when the dynasty made arrangements to fight other kingdoms.   The empire could not reach an agreement as to who would go to the war.   This again brought division because those not selected felt that they were not given an opportunity to fight for themselves thus there were differences on these grounds.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There is also clear mismanagement of the empire by the leaders when they did not give ample protection to their own.   Most of the promises made by their leaders were never fulfilled or honored.   The leaders who took after Suleiman put their interests first and forgot the people.   The people were neglected and those who were treated well were just a small group.   This discrimination resulted to obvious indifferences thereby there was disunity among people who were once united.(Donald,2005) As discussed earlier, after the death of sultan Suleyman, so many things changed.   Corruption was very rampant especially when it came to provision of basic social amenities to the people.   Services that were normally offered free had to be paid for and as result there was agitation and revolt among the people leading to division.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There was a gross alteration of rules, laws and policies that governed the people.   The leaders made alterations in their favor.   The common people were very disappointed and began to rebel.   The rebellions and revolts ended up in bringing divisions among the once united Umma Muslims community.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The other major cause of rift was education in that there are those who were provided with good quality education while the rest could only access the traditional education.   This in turn was reflected in terms of development so that those with high quality education were seen to develop more than the rest.   This led to social classification and thereby division.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   From the various issues discussed it is very clear that decline and eventual collapse of the Ottoman kingdom was caused by issues affecting them internally and not attacks and conquest by Europe and other world powers.   It is the mismanagement by their leaders that led to the division of the Umma Muslims and finally the most powerful and influential dynasty in the ancient times collapsed. Virtual Reality Essay -- Technology Research Papers

Virtual Reality Imagine walking down a white sandy beach. The sand is warm between your toes and there is a light breeze that moves your hair. You look across the horizon at the bright warm sun, a little to bright you think as you squint. But the water before you is so clear, you can see small fish clear to the bottom. The water is cool and it feels refreshing as you let the waves crash gently at your feet. This place is beautiful and peaceful, but you realize your not alone. You look to your right and see a child and her mother splashing in the water. You can hear the child laughing and feel the rippling sensation in the water against your legs. The sun is getting a little warm as a small bead of sweat falls across your brow. You look onto the beach and see the white sand as it glistens from the sun. You look a little farther and see the towel and chair you left earlier. You marvel about what a beautiful day it is. Then, you sigh as you walk across the warm sand and it sticks to your wet feet, wate r is dripping off you, but you feel relaxed. You don't want to leave this beautiful place, but you realize your time is up. You feel a sharp tap on your shoulder and your helmet is slowly being removed from your head. Reality comes flooding back to you, gone is the white sandy beach and warm sun, but and in its place are the cold uninviting walls of the laboratory. The scientist smiles and asks how you enjoyed your experience. What has just happened is the technology of the future called virtual reality. This is concept that allows one to think they are experiencing something through the use of the major senses. Virtual reality creates an imaginary image that allows for a sense of deception. Virtual reality takes place in many ... ...of funds. With further research and advancements comes the opportunity to entertain, train, as well as help people. Wouldn't we all like to experience a little vacation without the hassle of packing, flying or driving, and unpacking when we return. Instead we could relax and experience it without leaving the privacy of our own homes. Works Cited Beier, K.P. Virtual Reality: A Short Introduction. University of Michigan. Themes in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce :: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

Ã‚   James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is a novel of complex themes developed through frequent allusions to classical mythology.   The myth of Daedalus and Icarus serves as a structuring element in the novel, uniting the central themes of individual rebellion and discovery, producing a work of literature that illuminates the motivations of an artist, and the development of his individual philosophy.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   James Joyce chose the name Stephen Dedalus to link his hero with the mythical Greek hero, Daedalus.   In Greek myth, Daedalus was an architect, inventor, and artisan.   By request of King Minos, Daedalus built a labyrinth on Crete to contain a monster called the Minotaur, half bull and half man.   Later, for displeasing the king, Daedalus and his son Icarus were both confined in this labyrinth, which was so complex that even its creator could not find his way out.   Instead, Daedalus fashioned wings of wax and feathers so that he and his son could escape.   When Icarus flew too high -- too near the sun -- in spite of his father's warnings, his wings melted, and he fell into the sea and drowned.   His more cautious father flew to safety (World Book 3).   By using this myth in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (Portrait of the Artist), Joyce succeeds in giving definitive treatment to an archetype that was well established long before the twentieth century (Beebe 163).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The Daedalus myth gives a basic structure to Portrait of the Artist.   From the beginning, Stephen, like most young people, is caught in a maze, just as his namesake Daedalus was.   The schools are a maze of corridors; Dublin is a maze of streets.   Stephen's mind itself is a convoluted maze filled with dead ends and circular reasoning (Hackett 203): Met her today point blank in Grafton Street.   The crowd brought us together.   We both stopped.   She asked me why I never came, said she had heard all sorts of stories about me.   This was only to gain time.   Asked me, was I writing poems?   About whom?   I asked her.   This confused her more and I felt sorry and mean.   Turned off that valve at once and opened the spiritual-heroic refrigerating apparatus, invented and patented in all countries by Dante Alighieri. (Joyce 246)    Life poses riddles at every turn.   Stephen roams the labyrinth searching his mind for answers (Gorman 204).

What Makes a Piece Literature?

Some claims that every literature tries to make a specific point. A good writer they say always associates her opinion, ideas and thoughts in her or his masterpiece. Some produce literature purely for entertainment stressing that life is funny and humorous, some include many ironies highlighting that life is complicated and hard to understand, some literature especially those classics are for the purpose of political movement portraying the kind of values and morality the society has, some are for the purpose of religion and spirituality, some literature was made to emphasize creativity or unconventional way of creating a literature redefining the stereotypical characterization, themes, settings, conflicts and endings, and most importantly some literature are made for the purpose of persuasion. Literary works of writers especially from the past reflect their artistic interpretation of the world which is usually in the midst of inequalities, war and conflict. Literature basically speaks volumes about human ideas, emotions and nature that illustrate the kind of culture, religion and social orientation the writer has during the time he or she created it. There is no given absolute standard of what makes a piece a literature. Literature is basically the product of writer’s consciousness and experience. Literature can be always authentic or original. Most of the time, writer’s inputs in his writing is a mixture of acquired knowledge from the previous readings and his own (Elliot). In the earliest literature, the themes of something metaphysical are often explored especially in Greek and Roman literature during the time when most people were still in search of religion. One of the strongest and perhaps oldest emotions of mankind is fear, and the most intriguing fear is the fear of the unknown. The idea of fear inspires classic and contemporary writers to explore the things that cannot be seen or fully comprehended by human understanding, from the element of fear of the unknown to the exploration of something metaphysical that motivates detachment from life. As time passes by however, human interaction and attachment is increasing. There is a rapid development of ideas towards the standard of morality and ideal society. System and government arises and so inequality. Chaucer and Twain for example express their thoughts regarding inequalities of societal system through the stories and characters they created in their literature. Their works are considered timeless since the human problems they battled and experienced before are still being experience today. All literature is timeless in their own way since it explores human experience and human nature. Since everybody who can read literature is human, everybody can relate. There is no such thing as traditional literature when it comes to themes and symbolisms. What makes a literature traditional is that it was created long time ago.

The following topics do not need much research but are rather aimed at developing your introspection capabilities. In this manner, your ideas and opinions should form the largest part of the reflective essay. Keep in mind, however, that although this kind of writing gives you almost unlimited creative freedom, it must also be logical so that the readers are able to understand the sequence of actions, thoughts, and feelings that led to a particular conclusion. Tell about your expectations toward it and then compare them to reality. Keep in mind the most critical thing – focus more on your emotions and inner experience rather than on the event itself. Your First Job Experience This topic can be correlated to the previously discussed topic concerning your biggest challenge. Recall your first day at work and describe how you felt back then. People always tend to stress too much the first time they are given a responsible task. Share your experience of overcoming inner obstacles that appeared in your mind during that first time. The Role of Social Platforms in Your Life The modern world is based on and heavily dependent on technologies, and that is why it is essential to give due attention to the things we use, whether they are necessary for us at all. It is widely advocated that anyone entering Essay Example

It is widely advocated that anyone entering Essay Example It is widely advocated that anyone entering Essay It is widely advocated that anyone entering Essay It is widely advocated that anyone come ining into either the field of reding or psychotherapeutics should hold taken stairss to face and cover with all yesteryear, personal troubles and arrange for adequate and ongoing supervising to guarantee their proficiency. Write at least 700 words on whether you agree or disagree with this statement, back uping your statement where appropriate. ___________________________________________________________________ Many observers have stressed that an openness of attitude and willingness for self-reflection are indispensable qualities for possible healers. It is argued that those draw a bead oning to work in the field of reding and psychotherapeutics should hold begun to turn to some of their yesteryear, personal troubles, instead than hold confronted all of them, and that this is basically an on-going procedure. This procedure seems peculiarly of import since practicians are doing usage of themselves, as people, as their chief tool in assisting others to work through their troubles. Receiving regular, on-going and good quality supervising seems besides to be indispensable, peculiarly from an ethical point of position, in order to supply an effectual curative service. It has long been recognised that the personal properties of rehearsing counselors and clinical psychologists have an of import bearing upon curative work with clients ( Rogers, 1961, McLeod, 1998 ) . Gibson and Mitchell ( 1999 ) , for illustration, have suggested that the personhood’ of the healer is the most of import component in reding. Barrett and co-workers point out that if counselors acknowledge their ain human fallibility and exposure, it is likely they will experience more heartily toward those who are besides less virtuous ( 2003, p.203 ) . It seems of import, hence, for clients to be cognizant that counselors are besides human’ and, like themselves, can see confusion, ambivalency, failure and defeat. However, there is besides much potency for injury if counselors and clinical psychologists lack the personal unity and competency which may take them to work the exposure of clients. Rogers ( 1961 ) developed a model of conditions, including unconditioned positive respect, empathy and congruity, which he saw as basic to the curative relationship. It has besides been noted that these curative values will be of small usage if practicians do non work vigorously and consistently on self-evaluation and the declaration of their ain problems ( Cross and Papodopoulos, 2001, p. 68 ) . Similarly, Gibson and Mitchell ( 1999 ) suggest that counsellors can non assist clients when they themselves are plagued by psychological or emotional distress ( p.72 ) . It seems that on come ining this field of work, a trainee healer must hold at least begun to organize a echt relationship with him/herself which means being honest and dignified. As Schapira explains, before get downing to work therapeutically with person, practitioners need to hold gone rather some manner along their ain personal journey of self-understanding to hold reached the topographic point where they are compassiona te and empathetic about their ain life tests, and have learned some of import things from them ( 2000, p.87 ) . It is of import, besides, to recognize that practicians, along with everyone else, will go on to larn, and confront yesteryear troubles, as each new life phase is reached and presents them with new challenges. Schapira ( 2000 ) points out that since healers need to be able to sympathize with a broad scope of people, they have to endeavor to work through many of their ain unsolved psychological issues in their therapies during preparation. She besides pointed out that unsolved issues can still emerge for the practician when working with a peculiar individual. She states that therapy is basically a journey of find and the single demands to hold the support of person who has been on, at least, a good portion of the journey herself ( Schapira, 2000, p.25 ) . Therapists, it seems, necessitate good, supportive and regular supervising from an experient supervisor as an built-in portion of their work. Schapira ( 2000 ) , for illustration, describes the relationship between supervisor and healer as one characterised by a signifier of audience with another individual who monitors the curative procedure, attends to the care of ethical criterions, boundaries, practician effectivity and on-going instruction on the practitioner ( Schapira, 2000, p.30 ) . Regular supervisory Sessionss, go oning throughout the practitioner’s working life with clients, proctor competency and facilitate geographic expedition and apprehension of issues originating from the procedure of therapy ( Schapira, 2000 ) . Personal issues may come up during supervising through, for illustration, a repeat of issues from the clinical work that the practician finds hard. As Schapira notes, the client’s feelings or troubles may vibrate with unsolved personal issues for the supervisee ( 2000, p.31 ) . The overseer’ , may assist to place them with the supervisee’ and flag up the demand to raise them in personal therapy or there may be a demand for strong feelings, evoked from work with a client, to be vented during the session. As summarised by Schapira, supervision is a working relationship with the end of doing sense and significance of client’s stuff and procedure, and the supervisee’s responses to it ( 2000, p.32 ) . In decision, so, it is argued that those come ining the field of reding or psychotherapeutics should hold begun to research their ain yesteryear troubles, sorrows and pleasances and be unfastened to further and continued self-evaluation throughout their working curative life. The agreement of regular, good quality and on-going supervising is an indispensable constituent of curative work, both during preparation and beyond. Clients conveying a broad scope of problems and concerns to the guidance room and enter into a collaborative relationship with the healer. As Schapira observes, the on-going undertaking of exploring and working through these hard emotional affects is the procedure that helps us sympathize with another who is seeking to make the same thing for themselves ( 2000, p.73 ) . ______________________________________________________________________________ Mentions Barrett, S, Komaromy, C, Robb, M, Rogers, A ( 2003 )Communication, Relationships and Care: A Reader,Routledge, London Cross, M, Papodopoulos, L, ( 2001 )Becoming a Counselor: A Manual for Personal and Professional Development,Brunner-Routledge, London Gibson, R.L. , Mitchell, M.H ( 1999 )Introduction to Counselling and Guidance,Prentice Hall, London McLeod, J ( 1998 )An Introduction to Counselling Psychology,Open University Press, Milton Keynes Rogers, C ( 1961 )On Becoming a Person,Houghton Mifflin Publications, Boston, Mass. Purify Alcohol or Denatured Ethanol Using Distillation

Purify Alcohol or Denatured Ethanol Using Distillation Denatured alcohol is toxic to drink and may be unsuitable for some lab experiments or other purposes. If you need pure ethanol (CH3CH2OH), you can purify denatured, contaminated or impure alcohol using distillation.   Alcohol Distillation Materials Balance100-mL volumetric flask or graduated cylinderDistillation apparatus250-mL beaker (or another container to receive the distilled alcohol)Hotplate or another flameless heat source (to avoid igniting the ethanol)Boiling chips200-mL impure ethanol (e.g., 70% denatured alcohol) You can also  make  a distillation apparatus if you dont already have one or arent sure what one looks like. Alcohol Distillation Procedure Put on appropriate safety gear, including goggles, gloves and protective clothing.Weigh the volumetric flask or graduated cylinder and record the value. This will help you determine your yield if you care to calculate it.Add 100.00 mL of alcohol to the volumetric flask. Weigh the flask plus alcohol and record the value. Now, if you subtract the mass of the flask from this value, you will know the mass of your alcohol. The density of your alcohol is the mass per volume, which is the mass of the alcohol (the number you just obtained) divided by the volume (100.00 mL). You now know the density of the alcohol in g/mL.Pour the ethanol into the distillation vessel and add the remaining alcohol.Add a boiling chip or two to the flask.Assemble the distillation apparatus. The 250-mL beaker is your receiving vessel.Turn on the hotplate and heat the ethanol to a gentle boil. If you have a thermometer in the distillation apparatus, youll see the temperature climb and then stabilize when it reache s the temperature of the ethanol-water vapor. Once you reach it, do not allow the temperature to exceed the stable value. If the temperature starts to climb again, it means the ethanol is gone from the distillation vessel. At this point, you could add more of the impure alcohol, if it didnt all fit in the container at the start. Continue distillation until you have collected at least 100 mL in the receiving beaker.Allow the distillate (liquid you collected) to cool to room temperature.Transfer 100.00 mL of this liquid into the volumetric flask, weigh the flask plus alcohol, subtract the weight of the flask (from earlier), and record the mass of the alcohol. Divide the mass of the alcohol by 100 to get the density of your distillate in g/mL. You can compare this value against a table of values to estimate the purity of your alcohol. The density of pure ethanol around room temperature is 0.789 g/mL.If you want, you can run this liquid through another distillation to increase its purity. Keep in mind, some alcohol is lost during every distillation, so youll have a lower yield with the second distillation and even less final product if you do a third distillation. If you double or triple distill your alcohol, you can determine its density and estimate its purity using the same method outlined for the first disti llation. Notes About Alcohol Ethanol is sold in the pharmacy sections of stores as a disinfectant. It may be called ethyl alcohol, ethanol or ethyl rubbing alcohol. Another common type of alcohol used for rubbing alcohol is isopropyl alcohol or isopropanol. These alcohols have different properties (notably, isopropyl alcohol is toxic), so if it matters which one you need, be sure the desired alcohol is listed on the label. Hand sanitizer gels also often use ethanol and/or isopropanol. The label should list which type of alcohol is used under the active ingredients. Notes About Purity Distilling denatured alcohol will remove enough impurities for may lab applications. Further purification steps could include passing the alcohol over activated carbon. This would be especially helpful if the point of the distillation is to obtain drinkable ethanol. Be very careful distilling ethanol to drink using denatured alcohol as a source. If the denaturing agent was simply an additive intended to make the alcohol bitter, this purification might be fine, but if toxic substances were added to the alcohol, a lesser degree of contamination may remain in the distilled product. This is especially likely if the contaminant had a boiling point close to that of the ethanol. You can reduce contamination by discarding the first bit of ethanol that is collected and the last portion. It also helps to tightly control the temperature of the distillation. Just be aware: distilled alcohol is not suddenly pure! Even commercially produced ethanol still contains traces of other chemicals.

DQ - Assignment Example Q2. No, all businesses do not have the same functional areas. The functional areas in a business would depend on the size and need (Singla, 2009). With variation in size, larger organizations tend to have more and independent functional areas such as marketing and sales, production, customer service and human resources than their smaller counterparts. For example, Apple Inc., a technological firm, has information and technology department to undertake its ICT functions (Apple Inc., 2015). However, a small scale fisherman would not have such a functional area as the business does not need to leverage on information technology to execute its functions. Q3. At Apple Inc., functional areas are interdependent, with Design relying on Human Resources to attract the rightful personnel to undertake its mandate and Finance dependent on Sales to meet the financial obligations of the corporation among others (Apple Inc., 2015). Thus, for a consultant, there would be need to understand all the various functional areas of the organization before offering the needed services. This follows the argument by Srivastava and Verma (2012) that such a consultant would have to consider a problem from the perspective of the organization as a whole, factoring in the interest of all functional areas to reach a

Television Audiences Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Television Audiences - Essay Example Since their time, the growth of the media has overwhelmed the world, the influences of film now specters of life creating needs within the public that are not truly relevant to the existence of life. Moreover, television has deteriorated in such a way that the boundaries between reality and fantasy are crossed injecting viewers with the belief that what they see is not a reflection through a medium of art, but the viewing of reality, the open door through which other lives can be lived vicariously. Reality television, a deception of the television media on the public, has now accomplished the fears that most plagued Adorno and his contemporaries - culture is fully infected with capitalism and the commoditized ideologies about life is not fully material. In a letter to Walter Benjamin on 3 March 1936, Theodor Adorno stated that both high art and the industrially produced consumer art are infused and burdened with the stigma of capitalism and as well are reflective of change. Adorno st ated â€Å"Both are torn halves of an integral freedom, to which, however, they do not add up† (Adorno and Bernstein 2). ... The goal of human philosophical framework has traditionally been for humanity to reach a state of enlightenment, free of the untruths which burden mankind from reaching a state of mastery over the world. Through disenchantment of the universe, mankind asserts authority and utilizes knowledge over myth as a means to navigate life. However, according to Horkheimer, Adorno, and Noerr, enlightenment has been a calamity. In the search to be freed from enchantment, man has become apathetic towards life. Bacon, who put forth the concepts of experimental philosophy, saw the search for knowledge as an active element towards the search for mastery. In conquering knowledge of the natural world, human beings are looking for a way to master nature and to master other human beings The violence of shattering myths has been caused by thought that is powerful enough to break apart cultures and to destroy belief systems.(2). What is left after the disenchantment of the universe is the master on his th rone, bored and waiting for something to make his blood boil with excitement once again. Gratification through consumerism has replaced the mythologies that once drove humans to seek answers. The culture industry creates false needs, replacing the true needs of the human spirit. Bougeois cultural production obliterates the possibility of art in either popular or autonomous creation (Thomson 79). The human mind has become so inundated with exterior stimulation that most people have become complacent, the space in between reality from which innovation and creativity emanates filled up with the insertions of the commodity fetishism from which the value of human interaction becomes seated within the

Strategic HRM(Human Resource management) can be utilised as a Assignment

Strategic HRM(Human Resource management) can be utilised as a competitive advantage today - Assignment Example They must show how the role of HR can be maximized to make an organization successful. Strategic HRM is defined by its role in addressing two crucial needs in an organization- delivering strategic forecasts on the business by making it possible for the organization to source, evaluate and motivate employees in an increasingly dynamic business environment, and providing administrative services that are consistent, cost-effective and responsive to every department within the organization (Regis 2008, p.5). This depicts the evolution of the HR function where an employee has to go beyond the traditional job description. HRM should hence be involved in creation of business strategies because the function of employees is paramount within an organization; for this reason, HR professionals are referred to as strategic business partners. Strategic HRM is important since it facilitates reinforcement of an organizational culture, encourages commitment among employees and promotes a willingness among employees to act flexibly so as to bring about achievement of an organization’s goals that will in turn help it realize excellence. Alternatively, strategic HRM can be defined as all the activities that affect behavior of individuals within an organization, in their efforts to put together and implement its strategic needs. This entails creating a pattern within an organization, thus it is said to facilitate reinforcement of an organizational culture, where employees are informed and part of long-term strategic planning of attaining the organization’s goals and vision. The fundamental aim of strategic HRM is to create strategic capability in employees by ensuring they are skilled, committed and strongly motivated (Armstrong & Bacon 2003, pp.41-42). Strategic HRM is seen as being different across various organizations although certain themes stand out and these are summarized by the fact it imposes a cultural change defined by changes in attitudes, behaviours and values (Wright& McMahan 2011, p.94). Analysis of advantages realized by corporations that practice Strategic HRM for competitive advantage Gaining competitive advantage may either be by being a differentiator or a low-cost leader. It includes decisions, relationships, resources and capabilities that allow an organization to take advantage of opportunities in the market while avoiding threats to its desired position. A corporation that practices strategic HRM whether it is a low-cost leader or differentiator, is able to have continuous innovation, highly skilled and competent workforce making it possible to quickly and efficiently meet customer’s needs and preempt its customer’s moves. Breaking it down, two advantages that a corporation can attain as a result of instituting strategic HRM for competitive advantage include consolidating extensive technologies

In 2014, Public Health England published a guidance on sugar consumption and policy â€Å"Sugar Reduction: Responding to the Challenge†. This publication addressed the problems of sugar consumption between 2008 and 2012, including fruit juice, and other food and drink items. This publication outlined some actions, including: launch of national-wide digital marketing campaign addressing the problems of sugar consumption; necessity to conduct analysis and evidence reviews on different subjects, including advertising of food and drink to children. Also, the PHE informed about a necessity to consider imposition of taxes on sugar-sweetened drinks (Keynote, 2015). GDP in the UK has shown year-on-year growth between 2010 and 2013. Most ladies, fashionistas and stores believe that certain clothing brands such as Prada are quality hence they should be expensive. Despite having another brand with the same type of material, the history of Prada and certain designs still gets them associated with class and common amongst celebrities and the rich. In conclusion, I agree with the speaker that our beliefs determine our response to products. Such beliefs are what give a brand the value it receives in the market and lays the foundation that becomes the history upon which it is evaluated in future. I base my agreement with the speaker on the fact that the human brain mostly relates quality with what is trending or common rather than the utility of the product. This is proven by the common occurrence that whatever is expensive is always perceived to be of

Comparing Films of Macbeth Essay Example for Free

Comparing Films of Macbeth Essay Shakespeares Macbeth, was first performed before King James I at Hampton Court in 1606. Since then, Macbeth has gone on to be an ever-popular play, endlessly produced by a sea of directors. Having recently watched two of these productions, the first by the Polish director Roman Polanski and the other British director Gregory Dorans production for the Royal Shakespeare Company. It is apparent that there are great differences in how the two directors chose to portray the characters in the play. One of the interperative differences is in the character of Lady Macbeth. In the Royal Shakespeare Companys version we first meet Lady Macbeth in Act1 Scene5. She has black long hair, very pale skin, a slim figure and is dressed in black. Many critics have commented that her appearance is rather witch like and this is exactly what most people expect her to be. We witness her reading a letter when she suddenly looks up. This is of course the letter sent by her husband telling her of the witches prophecy of Kingship. She looks directly into the camera and although she maintains a blank expression we can sense from her piercing eyes that her mind is already over flown with ambition. As she folds the letter and looks up, evil intentions are in her eyes. The next shot we see is of her in the bath and although she does not show a lot of emotion her eyes reveal that she is still thinking deeply about the letter. She then begins to beg evil spirits to Unsex me here before ducking her head into the water. This is done through a narrative voice. We dont actually see her lips move. In the Polanski version we meet Lady Macbeth in Act1 Scene5. The similarities end here. In Polanskis version we see Lady Macbeth with long golden hair. This is often associated with innocence and femininity. But in Dorans version she has black hair. This is generally associated with evil. It is also important to note that she is dressed in white. This is again associated with innocence and purity, which we know Lady Macbeth is not. Lady Macbeth is very calm and gentle in the way she talks. Once again this contrasts with Polanskis version in which she speaks quite cunningly. In Polanskis version you could almost say she looks lifeless in this scene. We see her stand upon the battlements without any compassion for what she is thinking. This is strikingly different from the way she is depicted in the RSC version. Lady Macbeths final scene is Act5 Scene1. This is of course inversion as the first scene we met her in was Act1 Scene5. Doran uses further inversion in this scene as the last time we met Lady Macbeth she was wearing black. She is now wearing white. Doran, deliberately wanted us to notice this as he uses a black background to emphasise what she was wearing. In this scene we see her as a completely different person. When we first met her she looked very powerful and in control of herself but here we see her as totally out of control and insane. We also see that she depends a lot on the candle she is holding. This is ironic as in the Unsexing Scene she called on darkness to fall on her. We also see her rub her hands hysterically to get rid of the blood. This is also ironic as she earlier said, A little water will clear us of this deed. At the end of the scene she finally stops crying, looks up, and with a sense of realisation in her face, says her last words. What is done, cannot be undone. In Polanskis Act5 Scene1 we see Lady Macbeth as she awakens. Looking down she screams as she sees blood on her hands. Terrified, she cries, Gracious Duncan is dead. We then witness her walk about her chamber naked. (Hugh Hefners promise of nudity has been realised.) We see her open a box and pull out a now well-worn letter and read it aloud. This provides a full-circle sense to the tragedy. It takes the viewer back to the beginning of the story and reiterates how the horrible chain of events was started. This was very clever of Polanski; through Lady Macbeths sobbing she reads it, in the raggedness of the letter implies many repeated readings, Polanski shows her as, not so much mad but consumed by remorse for what they have done. I believe the two versions are very different, mainly because of the media they have been designed for. When Hugh Hefner promised at the launch of the film, a movie full of sex and violence I dont think it would have particularly appealed to Shakespeare lovers. Conversely the RSC production is unlikely to appeal to the stereotypical playboy reader. This is reflected in both films and as a result they were very different. The Polanski version, is very good in its own right but my personal favourite is Gregory Dorans simply because it has a more typical approach and is a lot truer to the text.

(Flight Global, 2010) However, there are many competitors that had occurred in the airline industry after deregulation that can compete with Qantas. Therefore this industry is high competition and low risk due to rate of return and high cost as well as airline industry can face with the big problem such as economic crisis. (Investopedia, 2010) Therefore Qantas confronts with high industry rivalry that existing in the airline industry especially international airline. Air Asia, for instance, it is the low cost airline that flight across Southeast Asia and Australia. (Thomas, 2010) Consequence, there are many competitors that existing in the market at the present; it can continue increased in the future as well. Second, potential new entrants is one of the current situation of industry structure that Qantas has to concern. As airline industry need to use large amount of money to enter in this industry so it is quite difficult for the new investors to invest. (Investopedia, 2010) Moreover, it is depending on the financial situation as well. (Investopedia, 2010) However, if the new airliners can create the company reputation, they can easily to catch the customers even the price are higher. (Investopedia, 2010) Therefore the potential new entrants are somewhat high in the airline industry because of deregulation as well. Third, substitutes, airline industry have high competition as well as a cost is also high. (Investopedia, 2010) For the domestic, travelers can take car or train or bus instead of using airline service that can effect with airline industry. (Investopedia, 2010) However, some passengers who use international flight can a little effect with airline industry due to they do not have more choice to go abroad. (Investopedia, 2010) Therefore the substitutes may high or low, it is depending on the customers favorite such as convenient, budget, and time. (Investopedia, 2010) Forth, bargaining power of suppliers is one of forces that can analyze the business strategy. Airbus and Boeing are primarily supply the aircraft for airlines business. (Investopedia, 2010) For example, overall of aircrafts of Qantas is approximate 246 aircraft which including Boeing 747s, 767s,737s and 717s, Airbus A380s, A330s and A320s, Bombardier Dash 8s and Bombardier Q400s. (Qantas Airways Limited, 2010) As mentioned for Qantass aircraft, it is can see that most of fleets are supplying by Boeing and Airbus. Therefore the bargaining power of suppliers is high in current airline industry. Last, bargaining power of buyers, as Qantas is the premium, full service in-flight both international and domestic airline. (Qantas Annual Review, 2010) The company had focused on the customer satisfaction. (Qantas Annual Review, 2010) There are high price if the passenger prefer to change the airplanes but the airline can compete with the service such as comfortable. (Investopedia, 2010) On the other hand, as the current situation customers have many options such as buy ticket via travel agent, or website itself to choose, they may concern for price, quality and service. Therefore the bargaining power of buyers is high for the airline industry. SWOT Analysis SWOT analysis uses for evaluating the strategy of the company which can divide into 2 parts such as external and internal environment. External analysis is looking at the Opportunities and Threats outside the organization as well as Internal analysis is emphasizing on the Strengths and Weaknesses within organization. (Value Based Management, 2010) External Analysis (Opportunities and Threats) Opportunities Technology advance, Qantas uses the technology to apply with products and service for customer to have more convenient. For example, according to Tay (2010) A 2D barcode image is replacing paper boarding passes for domestic passengers using Qantass new Mobile Check-in service. This service provide customers check in on their mobile which they will receive text message confirmation with 2D barcode. (Tay, 2010) Moreover, Jetstar also will launch this system as well. (Tay, 2010) In addition, as Qantas is one of the members of Oneworld alliance that is big alliance group. This group can lead Qantas has many services for example, Frequent Flyer program can create brand recognition and customer loyalty for Qantas. (Qantas, n.d.) Threats There are many threats that can affect with Qantas current situation such as fuel price, economic crisis, environmental problem and deregulation. Nowadays, fuel price is unstable and trend to increase, it is the problem that every airline worry. According to ABC News (2008) mentioned that Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon says fuel prices are a greater challenge to the global airline industry than SARS or the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the US. In term of economic crisis, it can affect with airline business revenue that passenger use less of travel by airplane due to high cost. Moreover, environmental problem, refer to a volcanic explosion in Iceland; it can affect with Qantas stopped flight and causes of delay. It can lead to disappoint for passengers who have to wait at the airport. (AAP, 2010) Moreover, deregulation of airline industry can effect with Qantas. Deregulation brings up the airline focuses on complete in low cost instead of service and safety. (Study Finds, 2010) Internal Analysis (Strengths and Weaknesses) Strengths Qantas Airways Limited has strong business strategy with full service and premium as well as Jetstar focuses on the low cost fare. (Qantas Airways Limited, 2010) The company has high strong brand recognition and brand reputation which receive the award for the best premium economic class. (Qantas Airways Limited, 2010; Platt, 2010)) The company also emphasize on the best safety and customer service. Moreover, Qantas is one of the members of Oneworld Alliance which include the big airline such as American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines and Cathay Pacific. (Study Finds, 2010) The purpose of this group is helping each other within the group such as engineering and performance as well as provides many facilities to passenger when connecting flight. (Study Finds, 2010) Weaknesses Refer to Qantas manages the human resources especially engineering and maintenance from overseas. It can lack of qualified and knowledge of staff to maintain the aircraft. (Study Finds, 2010) It also can damage the brand image and customer loyalty. In addition, the company provides inadequate training of staff. Moreover, Qantas is unable to control their staff. (Harvey, 2009; Bourke, 2010) As Qantas focuses on the safety first, everyday flight 24 hours even holiday but their engineers strike for holiday that can effect with them. (Harvey, 2009; Bourke, 2010) Core Competencies In term of core competencies, it is necessary for the business to bring the business strategies with the competitive advantage to apply in the business process. (Value Based Management, 2010; Matt, 2010) Those competencies can develop the end products more efficiency as well as core competency consist of abilities of acquaintance, production process, customer relationships and staff which help the company to reach the goal and being the market leader. (Vitez, 2009) Moreover, strategic architecture can describe the possible ways that the company is able to go to future and bring the company go along the new core competencies to create the benefits as well as reach the customers need and provide them to use those benefits efficiently. (Hamel and Prahalad, 1994, p.118) Strategic architecture such as information and social architecture is the ways to define the top managements to allocate the human resources correctly. (Hamel and Prahalad, 1994, p. 117) For example, According to Hamel and Prahalad (1994, p. 117) stated that To create a social architecture senior management must have a point of view on what values should predominate, what behaviors should be encouraged, what kind of people should feel comfortable working in the company. In case of Qantas, Airways Limited, the companys core competency is premium airline with full services. The company applies their core competencies with two strong brands reputation both Qantas and Jetstar and human resources. What is more, Qantas Airways Limited puts core competencies to create the firm to have competitive advantages. Competitive advantage Refer to Michael Porters competitive advantage is called generic strategies that have 3 main areas such as cost leadership, differentiate and focus or niche strategy. (Marketing Teacher, 2010; Matt, 2009) Focus group can divide into 2 parts namely cost focus and differentiate focus which look within focus market. (Value Based Management, 2010; Mind Tools, n.d.) Refer to Qantas Airways Limited, the company emphasizes on differentiate and cost advantage to reach competitive advantage. Hence, Qantas Airways Limited concerns competitive advantage which looking at the differentiate advantage and cost advantage. Differentiate Advantage According to Investing Smart (n.d.) pointed out that Jetstars quick rise to be one of the worlds most successful low-cost carriers places the Qantas Group well in term of product offering and differentiate. A380s and B787 Dreamliners, for instance, Qantas organizes to book those 2 aircrafts to serve the passenger to compete the competitive advantage more than others. (Investing Smart, n.d.) In case of Qantas establishes the frequent flyer program that different from other airline to make customer loyalty. (Qantas, n.d) According to Hoffman (2010) stated that Qantas announced today that Qantas Frequent Flyer has reached seven million members and predicted ongoing solid growth over the foreseeable future. The purpose of this program is to motivate passenger travel by using Qantas. The benefit of using frequent flyer, they will get point to upgrade the seat if earn enough point or using point in some alliance store and upgrade for weight of baggage as well as accessing to the Oneworld alliance lounge which provide foods, drinks, and other facilities. (Qantas, n.d.; Hoffman, 2010) Moreover, Qantas is also coalition with many local companies such as supermarket, restaurant entertainment, travel travel services, finance and business and shopping car. Woolworths, for example, Qantas uses frequent flyer program to associate with Woolworths Everyday Rewards to gather the poin t which provide the competitive advantage to each other. (Evan, 2010; Hoffman, 2010) Cost advantage Refer to Qantas Airways Limited is the premium full airline service with the premium price. The company starts the Jetstar for low cost airline to serve the passengers who travel in domestic such as Sydney and Melbourne. (Qantas Airways Limited, 2010) Moreover, as Qantas is one of the world recognition and reputation brand with the full service and safety in the airline industry. Qantas is also pushing Jetstar to flight for global destination in Asia Pacific to serve travelers to get more option as good service as Qantas with the economical fare. (Gregg, 2007) Strategy Recommendations As Qantas Airways Limited have plausible business strategies that can lead their business successful. Nevertheless, the company also has some weaknesses can cause many problems. Consequently, Qantas should pursue some recommendation to sustain the brand recognition and reputation. Cost and competition Regarding to airline industry is deregulation which independence from the government. It can lead to the intense of competition in case of cost. Airlines can freedom to set the price and some have less quality. Thence, the government should re-deregulation for airline industry. (Lowy, 2010; Elliott, 2010; Study Finds, 2010) This can avoid the airline competition with the lower cost and maintain the good quality of customer services as well. (Lowy, 2010; Elliott, 2010; Study Finds, 2010) Moreover, it also helps to renew the financial situation of airline industry as well as brand recognition. (Elliott, 2010). In addition Re-deregulation can decrease the new competitors to cut the costs as well. (Elliott, 2010) Customer Services As airline industry is both products and services that provide customers and reach the best satisfaction. Alliance is one of the ways that can provide the passengers happy. Qantas should collaborate with both domestic and global company. Metro Hotel, for example, the hotel is the partner of Qantas Frequent Flyer program when the customers using the frequent flyer card with this hotel they will get the point that can convert to be the money or voucher or discount from some events. (Metro Hotel, 2010) It is not only hotel but also car rental, grocery store, and bank. (Credit Card Finder, 2010) This way can make both companies get the customer loyalty and motivate them to use their service. Moreover, Qantas should make survey to update the detail what customers want such as service, catering, seat, entertainment, flight attendant, and lounge. (Platt, 2010) This study can help Qantas to maintain the rank of the worlds best airline, sustain customers pleasure, and retain the profit of the company as well. (Platt, 2010) In addition, Qantas should not focus only the first class but also economy class as well. To reach customer satisfaction, the company should provide and serve all class with the best service such as meals, seat, and drinks. (Govindasamy, 2010) Human Resources Qantas should focus to human resources by providing more training to meet customers fulfillment as well as brand recognition. The company put facilities and urge for staffs training to meet the standard of customer service and reach customers satisfaction. (Creedy, 2009) In addition, the company should encourage staff to be a part of their business as well. Moreover, safety is one of the first priorities that every airline must concern. Qantas Airways Limited, for example, as airline industry is high risk, the company needs to maintain the standard of safety. It is because of if the company lack of safety and security; it can be in trouble that can cause damage of brand recognition and reputation. (Sykes, 2010) Qantas should invest to hire the best engineering to preserve the objective of the company. If the company provides the best wellbeing and security, it can build up the brand image and profit as well. (Sykes, 2010) Moreover, Qantas should provide dependability to all customers and employee as well as manage the environmental friendly in the areas. (Sykes, 2010; Qantas Airways Limited, 2008) Potential Fallout Regarding to Qantas Airways Limited achieves the vision and goals of company itself and be the best premium with full service airline. Anyway, the company can meet some failures. Hence, the company needs to keep their firm going and maintain the financial situation stable in the present and future as well. The potential fallout can include human resources and re-deregulation that Qantas should be worried. First of all, Qantas may be unsuccessful due to the human resources. Refer to Qantass goals, the company concerns for the safety first. The company has to invest large amount of money to training and hire outsourcing staff especially engineering and maintenance but they are unqualified. (The Daily Telegraph, 2008) Qantas can fail due to their staff are lack of attention and participate to maintain the good quality of engine as well as some of them lack of knowledge that can cause of accidents. (The Daily Telegraph, 2008) For example, Qantass aircraft faces the accident due to the inadequate of employee to check properly. (Study Finds, 2010) Moreover, from some study found that Qantass training such as emergency evacuations and baggage handling fail. (ABC News, 2010) Therefore refer to worlds best airline rank; Qantas had dropped. (Platt, 2010) It can lead Qantas damage of brand reputation as well as customer loyalty. Re-deregulation can be one of failures that airline industry may face. As deregulation allows the airline set the cost by them, it can increase the intense of competition in low cost. Regarding to Qantas focuses on the premium and full airline service; moreover they also focus on Jetstar as a low cost airline. If the authorities restore the re-deregulation, it may affect with Qantas and Jetstar. It is because the government may control the price and the standard of service. When the passenger needs to travel in domestic, they may change the behavior to use other modes such as cars, train or bus that because of high cost of air ticket (Study Finds, 2009) Refer Jetstar may affect due to they focus in low fare ticket, it can reduce the profit of the company. Conclusion Qantas Airways Limited has strong brand reputation in the premium and full service airline with a subsidiary Jetstar as the low cost airline. They provide great the products and services for passenger and create the brand reputation in the global. The company also stresses on the advance technology, safety is first priorities, customer services, environmentally friendly and human resources. Besides they apply their strategies and core competencies to reach customers want and build up customer loyalty. Anyway, there is some threatening such as domestic and international competition that can lead Qantas weaken. Those contestants can snatch the market share and create brand loyalty by better service, less accident, and punctual. Thus, Qantas has to maintain standard the quality of service to be the worlds best airline in the world.

Importance of the Meteor in Nathaniel Hawthornes The Scarlet Letter :: Scarlet Letter essays

The Importance of the Meteor in The Scarlet Letter      Ã‚   Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel, The Scarlet Letter, is considered by many to be a masterpiece. It was a culmination of everything Hawthorne experienced in his life. He grew up in a household that held fast to Puritan ideals. This affected him in ways he himself may not have even realized.   â€Å"Nathaniel Hawthorne placed many undercurrents of meaning in this novel†(Tucker 16). At the climax of the story, a meteor flashes through the night sky. The appearance of this meteor at this particular moment in time contributes to the plot in many ways.    First, Reverend Dimsdale thinks the meteor is a message from God specifically for him. "Nothing was more common in those days than to interpret all meteoric appearances, and other natural phenomena that occurred with less regularity than the rise and set of the sun and moon, as so many revelations from a supernatural source"(149). Any person of that day would have assumed that something of that nature applied to some portion of his or her life. "Then, and there, before the judgment seat, thy mother, and thou, and I, must stand together. But the daylight of this world shall not see our meeting"(149)! Just after those words leave Reverend Dimsdale's mouth, the meteor lights up the sky as bright as day. It's as if God is proving Reverend Dimsdale's words to be false. The light of the meteor resembles the letter "A" to Reverend Dimsdale because his conscience is pricking at him. Subconsciencely he wants to punish himself for his sin since the townspeople can't punish him for a sin of whi ch they were unaware. Therefore, his guilty feelings twist a natural part of creation into a punishment of sorts. He believed the meteor resembled the letter "A" to convict him further of his sinfulness. "...a great red letter in the sky-the letter 'A' which we interpret to stand for 'Angel.' For, as our good Governor Winthrop was made an angel this past night, it was doubtless held fit that there should be some notice thereof"(153). The fact that a member of his congregation also believes that the meteor resembles the letter "A" is ironic because of his belief that it stands for "Angel" in honor of the departed governor rather than something with a negative connotation. The mind can make one event appear as something to one person while another person observing the same event will consider it the complete opposite of the first.

Death of Mrs. Mallard

Causes of Mrs. Mallards Death After reading Kate Chopin’s â€Å"The Story of an Hour†, readers are left in wonder as to what ultimately resulted in the death of Mrs. Louise Mallard. While the very end suggests heart disease as the culprit, further analyzation of the story points towards a few other, deeper and slightly more complex causes. The first thing we learn about Mrs. Mallard is that she has heart trouble. This heart trouble turns is both mental and physical and is both within her body and the relationship with her husband, Brently Mallard. Her heart trouble is what makes the announcement of Brently’s death so threatening to her.Someone that has a weak heart would not be able to deal very well with such news. Therefore, the fact that Mrs. Mallard has heart problems proves to be a significant cause of her death. Another contributing factor in Mrs. Mallard’s death may have been the reporting of her husband’s death. Mrs. Mallard’s sister, Josephine, announces that Brently was killed in a train accident. Mrs. Mallard’s reaction is not the same as a normal woman’s would be â€Å"with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance†. Instead, she weeps immediately, afterwards retiring to her own room. The news of Brently’s death reveals to Mrs.Mallard her freedom from the oppression she probably experienced while married to Brently. The good intentions of Josephine might be another cause of Mrs. Mallard’s death. Josephine is the person who informs Louise of the bad news. Josephine tells Louise in broken sentences. Later, after Louise retires to her room, it is Josephine who is trying to check up on her, interrupting Louise’s realization and enjoyment of her newly found freedom. Together, they go downstairs, to Brently’s unexpected return and Louise’s death. The fact that Mrs. Mallard has heart trouble has an effect on the way that others have to treat her.Josephi ne’s awareness of her sister’s condition may have caused her to try and be as gentle as possible when informing Mrs. Mallard, but still contributed to breaking her unintentionally anyways. The emotional rollercoaster that Mrs. Mallard is thrown on is probably one of the bigger factors in her death. The news of her husband’s death is the first big drop on the ride. It is a huge shock to Mrs. Mallard. She grieves, but then retires to her room alone where she goes into deep thought. This is where she discovers that she is a free body and soul from marriage and her husband. Her newly found independence is forbidden to her initially. She tries hard to fight joy that came with her realization because she feels guilty. Then, she begins to embrace it. She is elated and exits her room with a new perspective on the matter. She comes downstairs to the return of her very not dead husband and is again shocked and faced with another huge drop. These high ups and low downs are emotionally tiring to Mrs. Mallard. They are not any help to the fact that she has a weak heart. The biggest cause of Mrs. Mallard’s death is when Brently returns. She has already come to terms with Brently’s death and is looking positively towards her new future as a free woman. She finds joy in this and Brently’s return rips her freedom away from her, resulting in her death from not joy itself, but rather the loss of joy from losing the freedom she was so fond of. There were many causes that went into Mrs. Louise Mallard’s death. Her heart condition, the news of her husband, Brently Mallard’s, death, her sister’s good intentions, the emotional rollercoaster, and her sudden loss of freedom all add up against Mrs. Mallard. In the end, Mrs. Mallard wasn’t strong enough to handle all of these ups and downs.

Fast food vs homemade food Essay

Homemade food is better than fast food because it’s healthy, cheaper, and you control what’s in your food. Food is the most important thing that keeps us alive so we have to choose wisely on what we eat. But some people choose to eat meals that are giving to you in less than five minutes than a meal that takes thirty or more minutes. Fast food and homemade food also have their similarities because you could choose what you want to eat and when you want it. Fast food attracts people because its ready to go anytime of the day and many people don’t have that time to actually make a meal. Many people rely on fast food because it’s convenient to them and you could find a fast food place at almost any corner in a town. Everyone is busy you’re a college student, you work a lot, or your kids are keeping you busy so you are always in a rush so you don’t have the time to make a actual meal but that doesn’t mean your eating habits have to be a rush. When you’re making food at home you have control of the ingredients going in and what’s not going in. When eating fast food you don’t know if its health because you don’t know what is being put in the food you’re eating. For example, you could go to McDonalds and get a hamburger from the dollar menu or make your own at home, they both look the same and are probably going to be the same size but the differences between them are the calories in the hamburger and the tastes. By making your own you know what kind of percent of fat is in the meat. Almost all fast food restaurants look for deals so they would buy meat that has more percent of fat because it’s cheaper than meat that has less percent of fat. People keep feeding their kids fast food but what they don’t think about is it could lead their children to obesity in the future. By feeding them home made food you will have more control of their weight and they will have more energy throughout the day. Cooking at home dose take time out of your day but you also save much more money than eating out because when you cook at home you could cook one meal and that meal could last you all day or you could save the food for the next day. For example you could buy a five pound bag of chicken breast and use it for different types of meals for the week. Also, cooking at home could bring you family together and make the preparation go by faster. Both fast food and homemade food have differences and similarities. Fast food is more convenient and takes less time were as homemade food is healthier and saves you money.
